foster with us

See Spot Rescued is a completely foster-based rescue organization, with no physical shelter we rely on the loving homes of our incredible fosters. When one dog is placed in a foster home, it opens up space to save another life.

Foster homes are essential to SSR’s ability to save lives. Without a physical shelter, we can only rescue as many dogs as we have foster homes. By committing just a few weeks, you can save two lives: the dog you foster and the next one we can rescue because of the space you’ve made.

Fostering FAQs

  • You can choose to be either a temporary or a more long-term foster, depending on what works best for you. Temporary fosters typically care for a dog for partial days or while the permanent foster is on vacation. Long-term fosters are asked to commit to caring for a dog until they are adopted, which could range from a few days to a few months. For long-term fosters, we ask for a minimum two-week commitment.

While some dogs may take longer to be adopted, most foster dogs typically find their forever homes within a few weeks. Many of our foster parents work full-time, and we offer a free dog-walking service during the day to ensure your foster pup gets the exercise they need while you’re at work.

  • We supply a crate, leash, collar, harness, toys, treats, and food, depending on availability of donations.

  • Each foster parent is paired with a "foster buddy" – an experienced member of our foster team for personalized, one-on-one support. Additionally, all foster parents are invited to join our private WhatsApp group, where you can share photos, experiences, and seek advice from seasoned fosters. After completing our online orientation and interview process, you will also receive our detailed foster website.

  • Yes, SSR covers all vet visits. However, all vet appointments must be pre-approved by SSR. We will work with you and our veterinarian to schedule the appointment.

  • Sort of! We ask all fosters to share their dog preferences with us. When placing dogs in foster homes, we reach out to fosters based on availability and preferences. So, please be sure to let us know what types of dogs you’re interested in fostering!

  • Yes! However, we recommend keeping them separated initially while your new foster pup adjusts - which we will help with! Introducing them too early may result in a negative first encounter, as they haven’t had time to acclimate to each other. Allowing them to get used to each other’s presence while your foster is in a crate will help ensure a smoother and more successful long-term relationship.

  • We hold two- three adoption events per month (Saturday or Sunday) and will notify fosters via email. Fosters are asked to bring their dogs to the event or notify us if they’re unable to attend.

Same-day adoptions are only allowed for pre-approved adopters, and we will inform fosters if any are attending.
